About the CRP
Holy Family University's Collegiate Recovery Program is led by Dr. Patrick McElwaine. Dr. McElwaine has numerous connections with various support and therapeutic agencies in Montgomery, Bucks, and Philadelphia Counties. In addition to in-patient programs, rehabilitation centers, and outpatient programs, Dr. McElwaine is affiliated with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in several counties. NAMI provides free support groups to individuals and families struggling with mental health and/or addiction concerns and is focused on destigmatizing mental illness and addiction. NAMI and the other referral agencies are used as referral sources for our students.
CRPs offer support to students who may be struggling with addiction and/or are in recovery. CRPs can play a critical role in supporting those impacted by addiction by increasing student engagement, academic success, and the likelihood of graduating with a degree from their university. Studies have shown that students who are involved in CRP have higher graduation rates than the general student body, increased grade point averages, and lower relapse rates.
