DNP: Course Requirements
The Doctor of Nursing Practice program philosophy, purpose, and objectives are aligned with those of the University, the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, The Essentials of Doctoral Nursing Practice, Advanced-Level Nursing Education (AACN, 2021), the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties Competencies and Curriculum (NONPF, 2022), Healthy People 2030, and AACN’s Graduate-Level QSEN Competencies: Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes (2022).
The Doctor of Nursing Practice program will:
- Provide a doctoral nursing curriculum that is designed to address current and future global health care needs and issues in a variety of health care settings.
- Prepare graduates for positions of leadership in advanced nursing practice.
DNP Program Outcomes
At the completion of the program, the Holy Family University DNP graduate will be able to:
- Synthesize nursing and multidisciplinary theories of practice to develop new practice approaches.
- Demonstrate organizational and systems leadership skills and behaviors that emphasize practice, ongoing improvement of health outcomes, and ensure patient safety.
- Disseminate new knowledge to improve healthcare outcomes.
- Implement programs using information technology for quality improvement and evaluation of healthcare outcomes.
- Design, influence and implement healthcare policies that frame healthcare financing, practice regulation, access, safety, quality, and efficacy.
- Provide effective team leadership, play a central role in establishing inter-professional teams, participate in the work of the team, and assume leadership of the team when appropriate.
- Engage in leadership to integrate and institutionalize evidence-based clinical prevention and population health services for individuals, aggregates, and populations.
- Design, implement, and evaluate therapeutic interventions based on nursing science and other sciences, as appropriate to the area of specialization.
DNP Admission Requirements
- Application*
- Current unencumbered Compact State RN license
- Applicants should have and are willing to apply and obtain a PA RN license
- All official transcripts from your previous nursing schools reflecting completion of the degree. Recognition of degree will only be considered from CCNE, ACEN or CNEA accredited BSN and/or MSN program
- An undergraduate program minimum GPA of 3.0 or above required
- Current resume or CV
- Statement of goals and potential scholarly project essay. The candidate is to write an essay on a topic to include professional goals and a health care issue for improving patient care that could possibly serve as the inspiration for a future DNP scholarly project
- Personal interview may be requested
*The Holy Family University School of Nursing admission process is based on a holistic review approach. Each applicant is assessed individually, which includes a balanced consideration given to experiences, attributes, academic metrics and how the applicant might contribute value as a Doctor of Nursing Practice. Each application is reviewed to assure that all students who complete the process are considered.
