Facilities Projects

Holy Family University is currently undergoing a number of exciting facilities projects at our Northeast Philadelphia campus. Please check back frequently for the latest updates.

Alpha House Exit Lane Reopened

The entrance and exit around Alpha House have been reopened. Please note that there will be a brief closure again in the spring to complete the final paving of the wear coat. This will take place once we experience consistently warmer weather. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to improve campus infrastructure.

Demolition — December 12, 2024

Beginning on 12/12/24 contractors will begin demolition of portions of the site on the corner of Grant and Frankford. Work will be interior to the campus and we do not expect any additional closures of the roads or sidewalks above what has been planned. Work will include removal of the sign, plantings and preparing the corner to receive additional fill materials.

Road Closure — Main Campus Entrance December 16, 2024 through January 12, 2025

Diagram of closure at main entrance at Frankford & Stevenson

The main campus entrance on Stevenson Lane will be closing on 12/16/24 and be closed through 1/12/25 for heavy construction. Stevenson Lane will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic from Frankford Avenue to the entrance drive of the Campus Center. All sidewalks, crosswalks and road crossings in the area will be closed during this time.

The Contractor will be demolishing the corners of Frankford and Stevenson and excavating for the new monumental signage. A new drop off lane will be added to the side of Stevenson between NEB and St. Joes. Please be alert for heavy machinery and large dump trucks in the area during the closure.

All campus traffic will enter the campus using the Grant Avenue entrance between the Library and Alpha House. All traffic entering the campus will use the left-hand lane and all parents dropping off or picking up at Alpha House and Aquinas will stay to the right-hand lane.

University traffic will be able to exit the campus using the right-hand turn exit from the main parking lot or the Grant Avenue exit.

Students, Faculty, Staff and Campus Visitors should be prepared for increased traffic and congestion on Campus throughout the day until the Frankford Avenue entrance reopens.

Please be aware that construction will be ongoing through January and possibly into February at the Main entrance on Frankford Avenue and Stevenson Lane with periodic and temporary closures of drive lanes, crosswalks and sidewalks.

On December 20th multiple events on Campus with a large volume of visitor traffic will be occurring. Specific plans are being distributed to attendees for campus navigation.

Students, Faculty, Staff and Campus Visitors should be prepared for increased traffic and congestion on Campus during the closure of the main entrance. Very heavy traffic and congestion is expected on the morning of the 20th between 7 a.m. and 12 noon.

All work is subject to weather conditions and all closures will follow PennDOT’s prescribed plan.

Grant Avenue Sidewalk Closure

Construction crews are continuing to install a new walkway and curbing along the Holy Family University side of Grant Avenue. The sidewalk is expected to reopen at the start of the week of Dec. 16. Temporary lane and shoulder restrictions will continue at times.

Frankford Avenue Sidewalk Closure

The sidewalk along the Holy Family University side of Frankford Avenue from Grant Avenue to Stevenson Lane will be closed beginning Tuesday, Dec. 10. The walkway is expected to be closed until mid-January for curb and sidewalk replacement. Work will begin at the corner of Grant and Frankford Avenues and proceed to the entrance at Stevenson Lane and Frankford Avenue.

Pedestrians are asked to use the walkway on the opposite end of Frankford Avenue between Grant Avenue and Stevenson Lane during construction. There will also be temporary lane and shoulder restrictions at times on Frankford Avenue between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

In the event the contractor does not complete the curb and sidewalk replacement by December 16, the contractor will pause work on Frankford Avenue and shift to the main campus entrance. In this scenario, work will resume on Frankford Avenue once heavy demolition and construction is completed at the University’s main entrance at Frankford Avenue.

All construction projects are subject to weather conditions. All closures will follow PennDOT’s prescribed plan.
