Position Summary

The Event and Classroom Technology Specialist is responsible for providing hands-on support for audio-visual (AV), sound enhancement, and content capture technologies for both events and classroom environments across campus. This role ensures the smooth operation of AV systems during events and supports classroom AV infrastructure to ensure it meets the needs of faculty and students. The Specialist works closely with campus departments to ensure technical needs are addressed promptly and effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot AV equipment for campus events, including audiovisual, sound enhancement, and content capture systems
  • Provide technical support during events, resolving AV issues in real time to ensure successful event execution
  • Maintain and troubleshoot AV technology in classrooms, ensuring all equipment is functioning properly for daily use by faculty and students
  • Perform routine checks and preventative maintenance on AV systems in both event spaces and classrooms
  • Assist with the installation and configuration of AV equipment in classrooms, ensuring systems are up to date and functioning efficiently
  • Manage the inventory of AV equipment, both fixed and portable, ensuring availability and functionality for classroom and event use
  • Respond to classroom AV support requests, providing timely troubleshooting and resolutions to minimize disruptions to teaching and learning
  • Conduct monthly audits of AV equipment in classrooms to ensure all systems are operating as required
  • Collaborate with the Director of Infrastructure and Operations on potential upgrades to classroom and event AV systems
  • Train users and staff on the proper use of AV equipment and systems to enhance self-sufficiency
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive "how-to" knowledge base for users to reference AV equipment usage and troubleshooting
  • Develop detailed troubleshooting guides for Help Desk staff to improve issue resolution efficiency
  • Utilize work-study students and Help Desk staff for event setups and breakdowns, and coordinate their involvement during events
  • Work directly at events, ensuring the smooth operation of AV equipment and technical services
  • Collaborate with campus event planners, facilities, and other support personnel to ensure technical needs are met for scheduled events and academic activities
  • Provide support for multi-venue and larger-scale events, coordinating with internal staff as needed
  • Ensure equipment is properly stored, maintained, and returned to appropriate locations after use

Required Competencies

  • Strong technical skills in audiovisual, sound enhancement, and content capture technologies, including experience with classroom AV systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve AV issues in both classroom and event settings
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to nontechnical users
  • Dedication to high-quality customer service
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in time-sensitive situations
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends for events as needed
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in various environments (e.g., climbing ladders, using safety equipment)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience in a related field
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience with AV technology, including classroom and event environments
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience working with AV technology in classroom and event support roles
  • Experience working in higher education or large venue environments
