The University is a private institution in the Catholic tradition with campus locations in Philadelphia and Newtown PA. Position Summary

Holy Family University is seeking a full-time Academic Advisor to be a part of a team responsible for advising first-year, transfer, and undecided students. This position will report directly to the Director of Academic Advising. The Advisor will gain knowledge in general education and program curriculum, use of university advising databases, registration procedures, and university policies in order to offer a high-quality advising experience to our students. The Advisor will participate in our Holistic Academic Advising certification course.

Essential Functions, including but not limited to:

  • Advise students regarding course registration, concentration requirements, the academic impact of adding or dropping a course, and change of concentration.
  • Answer student questions concerning university policy and procedures.
  • Engage with students throughout each semester to offer the best university resources for academic success.
  • Utilize Advising Databases and Websites in registration.
  • Create strong rapport with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist in implementing training for Faculty Advisors.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 1-2 years of higher education experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and ability to follow university policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the campus community.
  • Excellent skills in student advising, counseling, and presenting to groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, with strong initiative and follow-through. Strong orientation to detail and timely completion of work.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks requiring a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail in a busy services office with continuous student contact.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, including listening skills, excellent group presentation skills, and respect for the confidentiality of student advising sessions.
  • Understanding of and appreciation for Holy Family's resources and educational philosophy.
  • Ability to clearly explain and act in accordance with the terms of FERPA regulations for the protection of student records.
  • This position will require occasional evening and weekend work at special functions.
